Learn More About Workplace Rights, Labor Law & Unions: George Meany Center/National Labor College Online CatalogueUnions do make a difference. And their industries profit from a well-trained, educated workforce. Unions do much to help workers get the education and training they need to succeed on the job and in their communities. For decades, Teamster members and their leaders have made labor education a priority by taking courses in-house or through various organizations. The Teamsters Union's Education Department provides in-house training and education. General labor education and skills training are available through local labor studies centers, including the University of California-Berkley, University of Massachusetts, Amherst or University of Alabama's CLEAR. The George Meany Center/National Labor College (GMC/NLC) in Silver Spring, Maryland offers courses for national, open enrollment and degree programs. Reaching out to young people about workforce rights, labor law and the role organized labor plays in the American workplace is important. One place to develop expertise in these areas is the George Meany Center/National Labor College. Check out some of their open enrollment courses for union members and leaders. Course listings are updated on a regular basis and may be found on the web. For a list of all courses and information on the degree programs offered through GMC/LNC, visit http://www.georgemeany.org/html/program_calendar.html. Young people need strong connections to our unions and our industries. GMC/NLC is just one place you can learn more so that you can teach more young people about what's really happening in the American workplace.
